California's Oldest Cardroom Gets Grand Update

No matter how legendary a place or object may be, everything needs an update.

The legendary Sistine Chapel has received numerous renovations and restorations to its structure and frescoes. It seems like every single old movie is being restored to reach our high-definition standards. And recently the original Yankees Stadium was replaced. Yankees Stadium, one of the most sacred sports venues in all of sports!

So no casino gamer should be too shocked that California's oldest cardroom, located in the California Grand Casino in Pacheco, is getting an update.

Although we like to preserve historical places like the next guy, the cardroom was built all the way back in 1854; people were still driving horses back then. Though it's been expanded over the years the casino has remained generally the same. The place needed the update, badly.

Therefore, the decision was made to make old new again by moving the room across the street to one of the nicest spots in the Bay Area.

What the new room lacks in old school substance, it makes up for in new school class. The spot boasts additional seating, a full bar, sit down restaurant and a large banquet/meeting room.

"We've always been known as a fun, neighborhood place where friends come to play," says Lamar Wilkinson, the long time owner, in a press release. "This new facility is a positive addition to the local community and one of the nicest gaming establishments in California."

So what type of games do you get once you step inside? A little bit of everything.

Of course you'll have some Texas Holdem, Limit Holdem and Omaha; no casino is complete without it. You'll also have some Pai Gow Poker, and what Wilkinson calls Hot Action Blackjack - this game incorporates jokers; the best possible hand is two jokers.

The only drawback: no free food. Back in the day if you played there you got a free lunch, the new room will charge you $2. We say it's for the better, who knows how well a place prepares free food in a kitchen that was around when Franklin Pierce was President.

"We want to provide the best possible experience for our players," Wilkinson added. "This beautiful new facility gives our customers a lot more room to play and relax. There are large flat screen TVs on the walls, a nice restaurant and bar, plus plenty of parking."
