Right under our noses our international neighbors have been building gaming empires. Macau is building multibillion-dollar resorts all over its country, cementing gaming as its “sport” of preference.

Now Singapore is getting into the picture. Will they have a Chinese Vegas of their own just like Macau? In fact, will they be able to top Macau with their new resort to become masters of the casinos of the East? We look at both places and see how if Macau will have some new competition.

Macau Has History on its Side

Macau has been growing stupid fast ever since their casinos stopped being controlled by the government in 2002. As soon as that happened Vegas owners have been diving into the market. Now you have spots like Sands Macau, the biggest casino in the world, and it's made way for the Wynn Macau and Venetian Macau. Gaming is getting so crazy in the city that their resorts have made more money than The Strip. The crazy thing is they are planning on putting another $3.3 billion into the resort.

Singapore Ready to Step into the Market

Singapore is ready to step into the gaming arena by releasing a casino of their own the Marina Bay Sands resort.

The Sands once again is ready to spend the big bucks, this time $8 billion on their new resort. Marina Bay Sands will feature three 55 story hotel towers that will be connected with a 1 hectare sky terrace on the roof.

In front of the three towers will be a Theatre Block, a Convention and Exhibition Facilities Block, as well as the Casino Block, which will have up to 1,000 gaming tables and 1,400 slot machines.

The Art-Science Museum will be constructed next to the three blocks and will have the shape of a lotus. It'll have a retractable roof, and a waterfall going through the roof of collected rainwater when closed in the day and you'll get laser shows at night!

Will Singapore be able to Compete?

If they build more spots like the Marina Bay Sands, of course they will. But it remains to be seen if they will be able to expand past once hot spot like in Macau. Keep track of the Marina Bay Sands when it opens up in 2010.
