Casino Gambling Up Everywhere Except Atlantic City

Let's be honest here, there's only one reason to visit New Jersey - Atlantic City.
Not even the New York Giants and New York Jets want to be affiliated with the state, putting "New York" in their name despite playing out of East Rutherford, NJ. And Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z is trying to move the NBA's New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn.
It seems like the only franchise proud enough to put "New Jersey" in front of their name are the Devils from the NHL. That's right, a team named after an evil entity from hell are the only ones affiliated with the state. Coincidence?
But at least Jersey has Atlantic City, a gaming destination that is an east coast version of Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately it looks like along with Vegas gaming lifestyle the city has also inherited its current recession. Atlantic City is losing money, lots of it.
The city has been losing money for months, and you can't just blame the current state of the U.S. economy either. You can put a lot of blame on the easy access of the
online gaming industry and the growing number of
casinos being built across America.
Spots on the East Coast like Connecticut and Pennsylvania are all offering casino gaming across their state, killing the need for people to fly out to Jersey or even Vegas. Delaware is pulling attention with from Atlantic City as well, even offering
sports gambling - which is still illegal in New Jersey.
Then you have the
online gambling industry. Like music and film the internet has had a huge affect on gaming around the world. Why bother driving out to Atlantic City for two hours of Blackjack when you can stay home, log in and start playing in five minutes. Sites like
Bodog.com have put Atlantic City in your home office.
Atlantic City casinos are doing their best to remedy this, lowering hotel and flight prices to pry clients from other states or off their CPUs. But it's been mostly ineffective. Many expect a lot of the gaming spots in the city to start closing its doors.
It looks like it'll be another bankruptcy-filled year for Donald Trump, CEO of many Atlantic City establishments.
