Hollywood Celebs Love Dominos?

by Bodog Casino | Nov 4 2009

We don't know if you've noticed, but Hollywood A- to D-listers love them some gaming. The game that first got really popular in the Hollywood realm was roulette. The rich and famous liked to gather around the table (and still do) and throw down piles of chips in order to add another stack to their already huge bank account.

Then blackjack became the game of choice. The game was quiet and you could play unnoticed in a casino as long as you kept a hat on your head. Then of course poker became huge in the celeb world. If Shannon Elizabeth didn't have poker to make up for her dying acting career we're pretty sure she'd be living at her mom's house right now.

So what's the trend now? Dominoes. Seriously.

Recently Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher had a dominoes party. People like Paris Hilton, Eva Longoria, Kate Bosworth and Selma Hayek were all throwing down the dice.

So how has the game that was generally played in South America and the Caribbean made its way into Hollywood circles? The guys who bankroll the game have been calling it “Hollywood Domino,” saying its “allowing players to become the director of their own film” where they can “choose their genre and start competing to create a ‘movie reel' before their competitors.”

The game is a variation of "Double 12" dominos. Choose your movie marker which will give you your lane, and in addition to being able to lay your dominoes on your lane (in this case “reel”) there is an independent lane (“the Red Carpet”) on which anyone can play. Only one domino is allowed to be laid down on any go, and the winner is the first player to get rid of all their pieces.

However, if you cannot play any of your pieces, then you have to pick up an additional domino and open your lane for the use of all other players. The creation of features such as “Blockbuster” (laying all your pieces), the “stunt double” and the making of “Sequels” and “Trilogies” (laying additional “double dominoes”) has also brought the game mainstream appeal. After 13 rounds, win the “Hollywood way” by finishing your movie "under budget" with the lowest score.

The game has even appeared on some online casino sites and you can actually buy the Hollywood version to play at home with friends. Unfortunately, Eva Longoria and Selma Hayek are sold separately.
