Caribbean Holdem Vs Texas Holdem

by Bodog Casino | Dec 4 2008

We’re sure you’ve heard of Caribbean Stud Poker. And we’re sure you’ve had your fill of Texas Holdem. But do you know about a game called Caribbean Holdem? Yeah, it exists.

Known as the sister game to stud poker, those who play and enjoy Texas Holdem should give the Caribbean remix a try if they don’t have enough time to sit at an online table for an hour, or can’t assemble enough friends for a live game.

To make sure you know how the game works we give the differences and similarities between the two.

How it Works
You’re not going to be facing any dudes with tinted shades, cowboy hats or dealing with any annoying poker small-talk when playing Caribbean Holdem. In fact, the only person you’ll be talking to is yourself, especially if you’re losing.

Caribbean Holdem is all about you versus the CPU, one-on-one. The dealer is dealt two cards face down while you’re dealt two cards face up and you have to predict whether your hand can beat the dealer’s after the three community cards aka “The Flop” is dealt.

If you believe your hand can match or beat the dealer's hand, you Call. If you believe the dealer will have a better hand, you Fold. Two more community cards are then dealt face up, and you must make the best five-card poker hand possible. The dealer must get a pair of 4’s of better in order to qualify.

And no, unfortunately, you can’t bluff the CPU. He’d probably read you like a book anyway.

Getting Paid
You won’t be saying “all-in” while playing Caribbean Holdem. But you can still get paid better than any tournament player. You can risk $1, $5, $25, $100, and $500 when playing, but keep in mind the amount you originally wagered will triple if you decide to raise.

Now for the important part: how and how much will you get paid?

The easy answer is “well”, but here’s a breakdown: if you hit the high card, one pair, two pair, three of a kind, a straight or if the dealer doesn’t qualify you’ll get paid even money. If you get a flush it’s 2-1 odds, a full house pays 3-1, four of a kind pays 10-1, a straight flush pays 20-1 and the royal flush pays 100-1.

And if you decide to throw down an extra dollar in the progressive slot you’ll have a shot at the progressive jackpot. It’s currently tipping the scales at approximately $91,000!
