Best Sushi Restaurants in Las Vegas

by Jake Gosselin | Nov 16 2007

Fish in the desert. For some reason, getting sushi in Las Vegas is just a little bit more exciting than getting it in New York or L.A. It feels rare and special, like having a healthy and delicious lunch in London or a polite waiter in Paris.

Fine dining is Las Vegas has evolved into one of the major attractions of the town, and for many of us, there is nothing finer than top-notch sushi.

It's with this in mind that we present to you Bodog's list of the best places in Las Vegas for sushi.

No. 1 - Nobu

You might not expect one of the world's best sushi restaurants to be found at the Hard Rock Café Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, but it is true. Even if you’re one of those non-sushi-eating cowards, not to worry, there's a dish for everyone here. Granted you might have to take out a second mortgage to pay for it, but it will definitely be worth it.

Masaharu MorimotoNobu is co-owned by master chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa and master actor Robert De Niro. The head chef is Masaharu Morimoto of Iron Chef fame. So if you've just come off of a winning spree at the Blackjack table and you've got a couple of drinks in you, it might be a good idea to stroll into Nobu and challenge Morimoto to a cook off. We hear he loves that.

The food is a fusion (isn't everything nowadays) of traditional Japanese with Peruvian and Argentinean flavors. Matsuhisa's signature dish is the black cod in miso, but making choices off this menu is like shooting at the broad side of a barn with a sawed-off shotgun. Even if you're drunk, you still won't miss.

No. 2 – Sushi Roku

Tucked away amidst the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, this upscale sushi restaurant is truly exceptional.

The minimalist and modern environment, along with its outstanding food and fantastic view of the Strip attracts an equally hip clientele.

Sushi Roku is exceptional on all fronts: food, service and atmosphere. It's almost impossible to find a negative review or comment on this rock solid restaurant. The only reason Sushi Roku isn't number one on this list is because the prices are a little bit higher than Nobu. However, if that's not an issue for you, you might want to consider Roku number one.

Sushi Roku doesn't have a lot of surprises menu-wise, other than the monkfish pate. It's filled with mostly standard dishes that are done to perfection.

No. 3 – Ra

Who knew that cream cheese and lobster spring rolls could taste better than just about anything else on this planet? Well if you're having them at Ra, then that would be the case.

SushiRa's sushi is consistently creative and delicious. Don't be afraid to step out of your dietary boundaries and try things you normally wouldn't. You'll find rolls with seemingly bizarre combinations of ingredients that somehow work together.

Ra has the standard Japanese fare, but what puts it on the map are its signature sushi dishes like the mango ceviche, the "Viva Las Vegas" roll and the "Crazy Monkey" roll.

Ra, which can be found at the Fashion Show Mall, also stands out as the most affordable sushi restaurant on this list.

No. 4 – Shibuya

The MGM Grand is one of our preferred casinos with its huge casino floor, multitude of Craps and Blackjack tables and the softest poker game in town. Fortunately, when hunger strikes, it also has one of the best Japanese restaurants in Las Vegas.

This self-described "ultimate sushi experience" is not only a purveyor of excellent sushi, but it has the most extensive sake list we have ever seen.

Shibuya is an excellent place to experiment with both drink and food while enjoying the high-energy, bustling atmosphere.

Like Sushi Roku, Shibuya suffers from a bad case of "expensivitis." Expect to pay around $80 per person, but tack on a little extra if you’re planning on following Bodog's lead and sampling the sake menu excessively.

No. 5 - Sushi Mon

Believe it or not, we here at Bodog are putting an all-you-can-eat joint on this list of best sushi restaurants in Vegas. But go there, and we know you'll understand why.

SushiLocated off the Strip at 9770 S. Maryland Pkwy, Sushi Mon is the ultimate spot for those of us who aren't easily satisfied with tasteful, little portions of yummy fish. Sometimes you just have to tell Akira-san to just leave you the whole damn fish.

The fish is fresh and delicious and best of all, infinite.

So while the fish is good, the atmosphere and crowds leave something to be desired. This is not a good spot for romantic dinners. But the fact that it's open later (2 a.m.) than any other restaurant on this list means that after a night of hard drinking, you can cab it here and satisfy your inner beast.
